Shafiq, 22, from Kabul, Afghanistan

Life in Afghanistan is very hard right now because of the Taliban killing so many people. There is no safety at all. There is war since 14 years and I almost don’t remember the time of peace.

I came to Germany with my wife and my mother by train, bus and boat. We walked from Iran to Turkey. From there a boat took us to Greece. It took us 4 months to come here. We couldn’t take anything with us.

Life in the camp is hard because it is very noisy with so many people living here with almost no privacy. Life here is very different to my home country Afghanistan, but me an my family still like Germany very much.

Just like all men here I can not work yet but I learn German so I hope I can become a mechanic here.
