Mohammad, 16, from Damascus, Syria

December 24, 2015 by Pauline Doerrich

My father was killed in the war in Syria. My mother had to stay but I could flee with my sister to Germany two months ago. We fled for almost ten days until we arrived here. It is good to be here and safe. I really wish my entire family could also be here and safe so we can be together like before the war. The people in Germany are really nice to us. We can be free and do what we want. I have a lot of time to play football and I also enjoy to paint if possible, but that's a bit difficult now.

Maiar & Milad, 12/18, from Damascus, Syria

December 24, 2015 by Pauline Doerrich

I took my little brother Maiar and fled with him from the war. We walked all the way through Macedona and Syria to arrive here in Germany four months ago. It took us ten days. We came here because we believe in a better future here. Since yesterday we can go to school and are really happy now. I hope to become a doctor after school. In our family we are with three boys and one girl. Only Maiar is with me - the rest of our family is still in Syria.

Laith, 6, from Damascus, Syria

December 24, 2015 by Pauline Doerrich

I am here with my dad. I'm happy to be here with him but we had to leave my twin-brother and my mum back in Syria when we fled. I really miss them a lot and hope that they can come to Germany soon. When I'm grown up I want to become an aircraft pilot.

Hamza, 16, from Damascus, Syria

December 24, 2015 by Pauline Doerrich

Hi, my name is Hamza. I used to work in a lollipop factory in Damascus. Three months ago I came with one of my sisters to Germany to flee the war in my homecountry. I have four more brothers and sisters who are still in Syria in the middle of the war. The people in Germany are very friendly and good to the refugees. I didn't make friends here yet, but I hope to make friends soon. Although I am really happy to be in Germany I often dream of my mum and dad in Syria and to be able to take both of them in my arms again.

Ferhad, 17. from Qamishli, Syria

December 24, 2015 by Pauline Doerrich

When the war is over I want to become a famous hiphop-dancer. I already did it when I was in Syria. Can I show you after the interview? Before the war living in Syria was very good - but now everything is destroyed. I was there when all was destroyed and people killed. It's really bad. The people in Germany are really nice to me and my brother who is also with me. Only he could come with me. We had to leave four of our brothers and four of our sisters back in Syria. We fled like most of the others here in a boat from Turkey

Ahmad, 16, from Latakia, Syria

December 24, 2015 by Pauline Doerrich

I hope I can go back to Syria soon when the war is over to open a drive-in cinema there. That's my really big dream! Cars are my passion! There are great cars here in Germany, especially electric cars. I am here now for three months and I have already found a girlfriend. My family is not here - only my brother could come with me. My little sister and my parents are still at home in Syria.

Anwar, 15, from Aleppo, Syria

December 24, 2015 by Pauline Doerrich

I love painting. That's my favorite thing to do. But my big dream is to become a doctor after school. My uncle and my aunt took me with them when they decided to flee from the war. I have four more brothers and sisters, but I am the only one who could come with them. They had to stay with my parents back in Syria. I really miss them all!

I am Khalil and I am eleven years old. I come from Syria. My hometown is Damascus, from where I fled with my family to Stuttgart. I have an older sister who is also with us. I hope my grandmother can come to us. She is still in Syria. I miss my home. It is a little bit difficult to get used to the food in Germany.

My hobbies are tabletennis and soccer. I am not playing in a team yet, but are a big fan of the FC Barcelona. When I'm grown up my dream is to become a doctor.

Farah, 14, from Damascus, Syria

December 16, 2015 by Pauline Doerrich

Hi, my name is Farah. I am from Damascus in Syria. My age is 14. My family came here because there is war in Syria. Our house was destroyed by bombs and we have even seen bombs falling. My dad's cousin was killed by a bomb. From Syria we first went to Lebanon and from there to Turkey. By bus we drove 16 hours to Istanbul. An airplane brought us from there to Germany.

I am living in Germany now since 1 1/2 years and I like it here, but I miss our house in Syria. I like that I do not have to wear a uniform in school. I do not want to go back to Syria, because there are no more friends there. They all fled. My dream is to become a psychologist.
